Because we live in a small town away from all of our family, we really look forward to having company and visitors. Grandad & Elena are visiting with us this week. We took a drive up the coast yesterday. The weather was perfect and we had a fabulous day.
We visited Cape Perpetua to explore the tidepools, walk around the overlook area, and enjoy a picnic lunch. Then we stopped at Hobbit's beach on the way home. Collin, Grandad and Elena were bravely swimming in the cold ocean, while Luke and I played in the warm sand. Grandad taught the kids how to catch sand crabs. They hunted for them all afternoon, collecting 11 of them by days end.
Grandad told stories to Collin about knights and dragons as we drove down the highway. "Keep telling the story Grandad," he would say every time Grandad got distracted, had to pause, or came to The End. He couldn't get enough. His favorite part was when the knight slept inside a dragon he had slain and awoke the next morning with superhuman strength. Collin is always looking for ways to get stronger and taller. My favorite part was when the knights ate noodles to give them strength before facing the daunting dragon. It got Collin to eat his dinner of noodle soup. We love your stories Grandad!

So glad you guys were able to enjoy the beautiful coast on such a nice day. We enjoyed the 4th with a high of 102. A little Oregon rain always sounds great on days like this. The morning here was overcast and breezy so Jill and I decided to go to the WJ parade. When it got too hot we went to see Indiana Jones. We miss you all and can't wait to see you in September. Hopefully the weather will be a little cooler. Give the boys a big hug from Grandma. Love and miss you all.

That sounded so fun. We love those stories too! We picked up Grandad from the airport, so Elena told us all about how Collin and Luke are SOOOOO tough at hiking, and they don't complain at all, that Collin can walk and walk!!! Last week we attempted our first hike with the kids walking, it was very short. Milly is very very prone to complaining which is dreadfully whoafull to me, in that I love hiking, and we grew up in a family that when we were little my Mom would take us on hikes and no-one complained and she would go on and on about how tough we were. Milly planted herself right in the dirt and sat there. It is an exercise in patience for me, and unconditional love! So its good, I am glad you've got tough hikers that you are raising though!! :) I also heard about Lukey's propensity to run in the road, and how he'll look back with happy mischievious eyes. Well, that's the story of Rawl's little life, and other dangerous ventures such as knives, climbing too high, and more much more...
oh man. I would love to get up there! (Again.) Unfortunately, after Ben's and my trip to New York, we now know the following: traveling with a 13 month old child is right up there with tearing phone books in half. Also, an airplane is the last place you want to be if you are even remotely pregnant. The combination was gruesome. BUT, despite all that, we did have a good time. We're SO glad you guys did too. Love you lots!

I'm sooooooooooooo glad you're making time in your life to blog. It is a Grandma's dream to find such cute pictures, and capture those you-are-there moments. I love your photography-- the strawberries simply had me drooling, because I know very well how fresh from the field strawberries are the best! Our adventurers loved their trip to the coast and are so glad they could visit.
Can't wait til we get our turn!
